Cathy Lane, Hexie Flowers, 85”x89”
Original Design
Quilter: Lynn Yates
Hexie Flowers is 110 English paper pieced, hand appliqued flowers on a queen size background, each a different fabric from my stash.  It was a joy to make.

Cathy Lane, Spring Pots, 58”x73”
Pattern: Kathy Doughty’s Organic Applique
Spring Pots is a wild celebration of bright prints and plaids.  I enjoyed obsessing over the many choices of fabric and practicing free motion quilting.

Felicity Goodell, Dishes, 23”x43”
Pattern by Cups and Saucers, Maaike Bakker
I have owned this book for many years, always with the intention of making one of the quilts! So I finally did. However instead of paper piecing I appliquéd the dishes instead. A lot less pieces! It was fun picking out the fabrics for a colorful collection of crockery!

Felicity Goodell, Beach Bums, 43”x33”
Pattern by JoAnn Hoffman
This pattern was another find at the quilt shop in South Dakota. A group of us goes to Siesta Beach just about every Friday, pretty much rain or shine, and we drink wine at 4 pm. So I just had to make this quilt! I actually made smaller versions, just two ladies, but always the one with the tramp stamp tattoo, for my beach buddies.

Felicity Goodell, Colleen’s Garden, 50”x74”
Pattern by JoAnn Hoffman
In Sept of 2019 we took a bus tour (when we could still  travel!) to see Mt Rushmore and Yellowstone. The tour originated in Rapid City SD. They had a lovely quilt shop, Quilt Connection Etc, where I came upon this pattern by a local designer. The whimsey of it spoke to me because I love gardening, not necessarily vegetables, just gardens in general, this is my interpretation of the pattern. I enjoyed selecting the fabrics, didn’t know there were so many browns for dirt!

Jacqui Fitzgerald, Harmony, 22”x43”
Pattern by: Do not recall the book the bird pattern was taken from.
The bird pattern was taken from a quilt book, but I do not recall name nor the author.  In using the bird pattern, I reversed the pattern to give the appearance of two birds facing each other.  Stain glass quilting method was used to applique the birds.

Jean Freestone, African Tulips, 34”x34”
Pattern by Cat Nap Quilts – The Hawaiian Way by E. Root Root
Hawaiian hand applique of African Tulips (Elizabeth Root) on ombré digital print fabric.  A second row of leaves, trapunto and sashiko were added.  I couldn’t stop!

Jann Nohe, Isolation Dream,
36”x44”
Original Design
I made this quilt in the spring of 2020 during the stay-at-home order.  The border fabric and all the flower fabric is “Dream” by Kaffe Fassett.

JoAnne Kobelski, My Herd of Turtles, 23.5”x34.5”
Pattern: Herd of Turtles by Nancy Lee Chong, Pacific Rim Quilt Co.
Quilter: Pat Alderman, Be-Bop Quilting
I sent for this pattern from on Facebook several years ago. The entire design is cut from one piece of fabric, then placed on a whole cloth background piece. I MACHINE blanket stitched the border and turtle bodies in place. then I HAND blanket stitched the turtle shell segments in a different fabric. Pat Alderman used metallic thread in an edge to edge pattern to make it look like they are swimming just under the surface of the water.

Big Pillow by Joy Abbott

Joy Abbott, The Big Pillow, 22”x22”
Pattern: Wabi-Sabi Quilts by Karen Lewis
The class project was to make a small quilt but I really needed a Big Pillow!

KK, Fleece, 16”x20”
Original Design
This sheep was begun in a Maggie Dillon “pet portrait” workshop with MPQG using raw edge appliqué with no fusible, background woven sections, all held together with zig-zag machine stitching and then machine quilted.

Kate Morrow, Beach Bums, 39”x33”
Pattern: Beach Bums designed by JoAnn Hoffman
I found the picture amusing. All of the swimsuits, hats, and other elements are scraps. I had a piece of Moderna fabric that was perfect for the sky – no idea where/when/why I had that!  I also had the wall fabrics. The palms, ladies, and other elements are fused to pieced background.

Kate Morrow, Great Blue Heron, 19”x34”
Pattern: Toni Whitney Designs
I love the great blue herons we see everywhere here. I bought the pattern in Seattle. The heron is fused applique on a pieced background. I chose all the fabrics. I satin-stitched all the edges, and used meandering and running stitches elsewhere. All machine stitched.

Marcia Berkey, Reversible Aloha Placemats, 14”x19”
Original Design
I designed my appliques from line drawings and clip art. The flip side features the Sassy Animal prints. Combined with reversible napkins and potholders, these made a great gift for our daughter on the big island, two blocks away from one of the recent lava fissures. Aloha.

Mary Lewis, A Rose Is A Rose, 61”x61”
Traditional Baltimore Appliqué blocks
I couldn’t resist submitting a quilt from the ’90s, completely made by hand. I seldom hand quilt anything these days!

Mary Schulte, Vintage Circus, 31”x48”

Rebecca Ivey, Birds on a Wire, 42.5”x52”

Rebecca Yoder, Aunt Millie’s Garden, 56”x46”
Pattern: Piece O’ Cake Designs
A group of eight friends got together to each make our own version of this quilt.  I designed the sashings and the border, and reduced the size to 70%.  This quilt was entered in AQS Lancaster Show in 2013 and was awarded a 1st place.

Rebecca Yoder, Just Another Day in Paradise, 17”x17”
Original Design
My inspiration for this quilt was a greeting card.  It is hand appliqued, hand embroidered, and hand quilted, and so much fun!

Rebecca Yoder, Shortcut Around the Garden, 24”x24”
Original Design
This quilt was made from my collection of Aunt Grace’s reproduction fabrics.  I made a duplicate of this quilt and donated it to NQA Little Quilt Auction.  It was the viewer’s choice quilt.  What a fun weekend at the show with three close friends!

This is appliqued on an embroidery machine then pieced together and quilted.

Suzanne Laroche, Christmas 2020, 58”x73”

Suzy Weinbach, Campania, 74”x74”

Loved doing the wool appliqué.  Knew this would be as close as I would ever get to a Baltimore Album Quilt.

The leaves have 2 layers of batting and were quilted with a colorful leaf design and then a thicker black thread for the veins.  Made the batik leaves Pop!
