English Paper Piecing 

Class Fee: $45 (cash or check) $47 (credit card)

Kit Fee: $15 kit per student

Learn the basics of English Paper Piecing and create your own unique 4" hexagon block.  Instruction includes EPP geometry, color & design basics, fussy cutting with Tina's Wonder Window, basting options, various hand piecing stitches, curved piecing, and finishing options.

Class handout includes a bonus table runner pattern. This in person class includes pre-cut paper templates, printed handouts, a Wonder Window and a dry-erase marker.

Manx style hand stitched Log Cabin quilting2/15/2027

In 2021, Quiltfolk introduced Nan Ryan to the Manx block. The workshop

featured Jenni Smith and Kay Walsh in their English setting. In the midst of our

COVID outbreak, it was a calming, redeeming, fully hand-sewing method.

Manx is the name of the native Celtic people from the Isle of Man with additional

Norse (Viking) and English influences. The Isle of Man is an island located in the

middle of the Irish Sea between England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

The block size is based on hand measurements. The log cabin block

assembly is done completely by hand, and it differs in its structure from a normal log

cabin block. These are big stitches, so your hands will be free from harm.

She has taught this class many times locally and is glad to share with Friendship

Knot. This will be a free, 3-hour workshop with tea and biscuits mid-session. Join in

to test it out and chat with friends. Make one block or, like potato chips, many

many more.

Exploring Evolon In Your Fiber Art

Spend a day playing with Evolon, a super soft, yet strong non-woven fiber that has many art quilt applications. We’ll experiment with a variety of techniques to transform Evolon through layers of faux-dyeing, sun printing, mark making, painting, stamping, stenciling, raw-edge applique, and stitching! You’ll leave with lots of swatches, ideas and inspiration to incorporate Evolon into your fiber art!

Do you love quilts, gems, and great stories?

This class is for you! MJ Kinman, maker of giant gem quilts, has designed two patterns inspired by some of the world's most beautiful gems, including:

The Clark Pink – A stunning 9-carat pink diamond owned by the richest woman in America you’ve never heard of -- Huguette Clark. She had millions and mansions but cared for none of it. Her great love was her collection of porcelain dolls. When Huguette died at age 105, her dolls filled her hospital room.

The Duke Canary Diamond – Meet one of the original "poor little rich girls". When her tobacco-magnate father died when Doris Duke was just 12 years old, she became the wealthiest little girl in the world. Doris's life was filled with adventure and heartache -- and some of the most gorgeous gems in the world.

In class, students will choose one of the fully charted gem patterns to create. MJ will demonstrate the technique, as well as tips and tricks that will give you confidence to create your own glowing gem.

While our sewing machines are singing away and your gem block takes shape, MJ will also share one of these amazing gem’s stories, as well as tales of their eccentric, intriguing, and often outrageous owners. Over the course of a half day-long session, students will learn how to:

• Learn the codes and visual clues MJ uses to piece together her gems.

• Learn about the dazzling variety of colored gemstones so that they can select the colors for their gem that bring them joy. (Hint: there are no wrong answers!)

• Understand how different fabrics impact the flow of light and color across a quilt design.

• Practice the assembly techniques as they create their own lovely gem block.

• Learn about one of the gems that inspired the patterns – their histories, legends, and the amazing people who crossed paths with them. Supplied by Instructor:

• Pattern and instructions for both gems

• Colorways provided before class to help students select their fabrics

Supply List for Students:

• 10 Business-size envelopes or plastic baggies to hold sorted pieces

• Highlighter • 18” ruler & small ruler with a ¼” measurement

• Fabric marking pens/pencils for use on dark and light fabric

• Domestic sewing machine and thread (neutrals or colors that match your fabrics)

• Basic sewing supplies: pins, scissors

• Iron, ironing mat

• Fat Quarters based on the gem they wish to create

MJ will provide the colorway chart before class, which helps guide students in their fabric selection

Create photorealistic quilts one square at a time in this one-day workshop. Learn the techniques that make up Timna’s https://www.timnatarr.com/gallery. Using a photo and kit provided in class, the process of making a fabric mosaic using turned edge machine applique is explained. We will break down the construction process, explore color and value as design elements, and learn how to choose the right fabric for the right location. For intermediate level quilters.

No kit fee for Zoom workshop.
