Natalya Khorover is an artist deeply vested in reclaiming and repurposing materials that often end up choking our environment or overflowing landfills. She uses hand and machine stitching to collage layers of single use plastics into works of art. In the process, the original materials become unrecognizable.
"Plastic Nature" Zoom class
Is it trash? Is it recyclable? Can you make art with it?
Join us for a day of learning how to use unconventional materials in small, quilted projects.
Class Fee: $45 (check or cash) $47 (credit card)
Student Supply List: A collection of single-use plastic (various colors, sizes, thicknesses and patterns, from bags, to bulk item wrapping, to supermarket packaging), sewing machine (no need for special needles), sharp craft scissors, sharp pointy embroidery scissors, various sewing machine and hand stitching threads, needles for hand stitching (thimble if used), tracing paper, pencil, black marker, pointy tweezers. A good base material for this is Pellon 70 Peltex Ultra Firm Sew-In Interfacing - 20” wide. If you have something similar on hand, use it. A used bubble mailer or a sturdy woven plastic shopping bags make an excellent substrate as well, and are my preferred option these days.
You will also need an inspiration photo or two of a nature scene (a flower, a tree, rocks, landscape, ect.) printed on plain paper to a size of 8”x10”.
